I really love this island. There was a time, I was so addicted to this island, I would be there every 3 months. I haven't been back in a really long while--ok more than a year to be exact. Hunny and I spent a lot of vacations here and I look forward to more but I will no longer make the mistake of going there again during Holy Week. First of all, everyone, including the manangs who sell dried pusit and bbq in every corner, jacks up their prices. By jack up, i mean that the 25-peso longanisa burger that i love is suddenly priced at 70 pesos. Second, there's just too much parties and way too much drinking plus the beach is so crowded, its so hard to find a nice spot in the powdery, white sand to sunbathe in. Third, during Holy Week, it seems that everyone's there just to "be seen". Fourth, there's waaaaayyyy too much advertising from companies like Smart and Globe who obviously compete for the largest and most number of banners, sponsored rave parties and chill out sessions and freebies (this one i particularly like). Last but not the least, it's absolutely stressful. It completely takes away the whole reason for going to the beach, which is, to relax, enjoy the beauty of nature and feel absolute bliss.

I've heard from friends who have been there recently that a lot of new bars and restaurants have opened. My favorite ones, the ones I keep coming back to are listed here. And I intend to stay loyal to these establishments in the years to come.

Why am I suddenly writing about Boracay? My 2 condo-mates are leaving for the island tomorrow and I can't help but feel nostalgic. I miss Jonas, Pink Patio's uber friendly guest relations officer, walking around in a bikini, lying on my favorite spot in the island while reading a good book, drinking Bombom bar's rum coke in the middle of the day, the milkshakes at Jony's, Janet's crepes (she owns Gorio's), sinigang and caldereta at Caribo, holding Hunny's hand while watching the breathtaking sunset while drinking rum coke again.

I miss Boracay. The island holds too many beautiful and fun memories of my hunny and my closest friends. I can't wait to go back.

Ain't that gorgeous? (picture snagged from photographer friend, Kai)

about moi

Loves the beach, wishes she had more time and money to travel, recently got hooked to climbing mountains, reads anything she can get her hands on, frustrated writer, adores her 3-year-old Lhasa Apso, Tashi, constantly needs caffeine, wonders when she'll quit smoking, and will most likely die due to liver complications from drinking too much (if the cigarettes doesn't get to her lungs first). Can't live without accessories especially big, dangling earrings, shoe freak (aren't we all?), sucker for discovering hole-in-the-wall restaurants, will ingest anything spicy, enjoys giving and receiving massages, addicted to Friends, Sex and the City and CSI, goes gaga over kids, dreams of being alone with Jim Morrison and smoking a joint with Bob Marley. Would love to party with Gwen Stefani, shop with Patricia Field, write poetry with Maya Angelou and have Sting, Nelson Mandela, Mark Twain and Bono over for dinner.
